Al2O3-siloxane nanocomposite superhydrophobic coating on low carbon steel with improved corrosion resistance and stability upto 750oc by electrophoretic deposition

ABSTRACT

A durable nanocomposite film made of Al2O3 and siloxane, 30 µm thick with a water contact angle of 151°, was created on low carbon steel using electrophoretic deposition (EPD), then dip-coated in methyl hydrogen polysiloxane (KF-99) and cured at 140°C for 2 hours. The coating showed impressive resistance to corrosion, increasing the corrosion potential (Ecorr) from -930 to -498 mV and decreasing the corrosion current (Icorr) from 120.22 to 1.122 μA/cm². Furthermore, there was a significant increase in the charge transfer resistance (Rct) from 10.84 to 8.7 x 10⁶ Ω. These enhancements achieve an impressive 99.1% efficiency in inhibiting corrosion. The coating showed stability up to 750°C, while achieving a corrosion inhibition efficiency of 98.3%.
